High school students throughout Tennessee had some great opportunities recently to check out a career as a professional carpenter or millwright. Representatives from the Southeastern Carpenters and Southern States Millwrights teamed with staff from the Mid-South Carpenters Training program to bring the union message to tomorrow’s workforce. Representatives participated in four outreach events in three days, talking with hundreds of students about their options as a professional craftsperson.
Students of Cane Ridge High School’s Academy of Architecture & Construction in Antioch, met with union representatives for a Q&A session. These were juniors and seniors focusing on construction. Over in Nashville, the union message was presented to more than 5,000 students and career education professionals at the Academies of Nashville job fair. At Ringgold High School, just South of Chattanooga, students were able to test their skills on a virtual welder machine at the Mid-South Training booth at their Career Day. At the Mid-South Training Program’s Tri-State Carpenter and Millwright Training Center in Chattanooga, student visitors from Sale Creek High School observed the training operation first-hand with tours and demonstrations by Training Center staff.
