A recruitment blitz in the last week of March saw Chattanooga Carpenter Instructor David Hall present at five high schools in three days for about 3000 students and parents attending their school’s event. David was accompanied by SECRC Carpenters Local 74 Representative Rodney Graham and Chattanooga Training Center Millwright Instructor Chad Snow along the way.
The recruitment blitz appeared at Tennessee’s Hixson High School School Fair in Hixson; Ivy Academy Career Fair in Chattanooga; Rhea County High School Career Fair in Evensville; and Silverdale Academy STEM Night in Chattanooga. Hall also brought his message to Ringgold High School Career Fair in Ringgold, Georgia.
Consistent messaging to high school students is a proven strategy for attracting apprentices into careers as union carpenters or millwrights.
Local 74 staff and members teamed with Mid-South Training staffers to attend 10 Career Days in March. Another 10 are planned for April.
